Feature Club: Sydney Gymnastics Centre

Sydney Gymnastics Centre burst through the doors of gymnastics in NSW when it opened in August 2013. Since that day, it has been a fast growing club that focuses on all areas of gymnastics. Offering a magnitude of classes from Kindergym, all the way up to High Performance.

In 2018, SGC won the GNSW Overall Club of the year, the second time the club has won the prestigious award (2016 being the first) and were finalists in 2017. Gymnastics and Operations Manager Lisa Angeleski states “This is a great achievement for only being five years young in the industry”. Lisa has been with the club for 5 years and is the most proud of “running 4 competitive disciplines and each discipline achieving international status in 2018, as well as running a great inclusions program, working closely with AAORF Group and over 2500 gymnastics members visit our centre each week”.

The clubs athletes, coaches and gymsports, also took home multiple awards at the 2018 Awards night. Including 6 athlete of the year awards across Men's, Women's and Trampoline gymnastics. As well as, Kindergym coach, Elite Trampoline and Women's coaching team and Trampoline club of the year.

SGC is one of 3 clubs across all of NSW with over 2500 members. With state of the art facilities and world class coaches, SGC in 2019 will be focusing on increasing awareness and knowledge of the sport of Gymnastics through their KinderGym members. “We will be holding more events for preschool ages to encourage parents to invest their children at a young age and educating them on the benefits they will receive from such a great sport”, Lisa told Gymnastics NSW last week.

In 2013, SGC established the SGAC Sports Academy. It was created to encourage participation in sports and provide assistance and support to elite athletes. The Sports Academy has established Scholarship grants, travel and uniform subsidies and talent recognition programs. To date, it has contributed in excess of $650,000 in scholarships, uniform and travel subsidies.

It is clear that SGC have created a club with their athletes well being and member support, as their top priority. Creating an inclusive environment where gymnastics is accessible to all.

Congratulations Sydney Gymnastics Centre on a successful 2018.
