National Spotlight Series
Alex Ibrahim (Altitude Gym Sports) was one of the few trampoline gymnasts who took out the national title across both individual trampoline and double mini trampoline. An incredible result for the teenager who has secured his spot on the Australian team for the 2019 World Age Championships, which will be held in Tokyo, 5-8 December.
When did you first start gymnastics and why?
I started KinderGym at Bankstown Sports Youth Club when I was 5. It was something to do while my brother trained.
How often do you train?
4 days a week, 2 hours each day.
Do you do any other sports or types of training?
No, for the last couple of years I was diving as well but I stopped last year to concentrate on Trampoline.
Who is your gymnastics idol?
Ty Swadling, I feel that Ty has a positive impact on the sport and has changed my outlook on training and competitions on a whole. He has also inspired me to train my hardest even on my worst days.
What is the best experience you have had in the sport?
Traveling to Bulgaria and competing for Australia in 2017.
What was the best thing about National Championships 2019?
Winning gold in both Trampoline and DMT.
Who would you thank the most for helping achieve your goals at National Championships and why?
Greg Clune who never shied away from pushing me to my limits and always believed in me.
What is your goal for the next 12 months in Gymnastics?
First up going to National Clubs and I hope to secure a position on the Australian team for World Age Championships in Tokyo at the end of the year.
What has been the hardest thing to overcome so far in Gymnastics and how did you get through it?
Believing that I had the ability and actually deserved to be called an Australian Champion.
What do you do outside of the gym?
Most of my time is spent at school and training, when I am not doing either of those things then I play PlayStation and catch up with friends.
What do you love about gymnastics?
That I am constantly being challenged and having to discover new strategies to overcome these challenges.
