LEAP Scholarship

GNSW Youth Leaders LEAP Forward with International Scholarship

Two of Gymnastics NSW’s bright young leaders will be heading off on the experience of a lifetime as part of the 2019 LEAP Scholarship, where they will study a chosen area of Gymnastics at the renowned Academy of Physical Education in Ollerup, Denmark.

Alyse Gretton (St John Bosco Gymnastics Club) and Lachlan Tolhurst (PCYC Umina Beach) were both awarded the semester-long scholarship due to their ongoing involvement in both gymnastics participation, coaching and leadership, as well as their inspiring vision for where they want to take the sport using the knowledge they will gain from their time in Denmark.

This is an incredible opportunity for these two worthy recipients to grow both their knowledge and experience of gymnastics, while also being exposed to different approaches to coaching, and performing skills.

Alyse is eager to build her knowledge of the international Team Gym space so as to help bring back a new variety of gymnastics to Team Gym in Australia. Alyse believes this will help contribute to new gymnasts taking up Team Gym, as well as keep current gymnasts engaged and involved for longer. With the growth of Team Gym and the introduction of an extended levels program within it, Alyse is excited at the chance to be directly exposed to international standards of Team Gym.

Lachlan is eager to grow FreeG within NSW and so the opportunity to attend Ollerup and study their program was something he did not want to miss out on. Lachlan is excited to have receive the opportunity to grow his sport,

“I would have so many fresh and new ideas to bring back and help grow FreeG more and more in NSW, and also hopefully Australia." stated Lachlan.

Lachlan is also eager to build his repertoire of coaching drills and warm up activities, as well as advance his spotting. The end goal for Lachlan is to share such knowledge with youth coaches at conferences, workshops and presentations.

GNSW congratulates these two members of our community on their scholarships and wishes them the best of luck for their time at Ollerup.

We’ll be catching up with Lachlan and Alyse throughout their Denmark adventures so watch this space!

If you or someone you know think you would be a good fit for future scholarships, keep an eye on our LEAP website as 2020 Scholarship applications will open up in August this year.
