Gymnastics NSW remember Fred Austine
Gymnastics NSW are sad to announce the passing of Gymnastics NSW Life Member, Fred Austine.
Fred was thought of as a father of trampoline sports in Australia. As national trampoline coach for 15 years, Fred inspired countless generations of trampoline athletes across Australia. As one of the pioneers of trampoline sports in our country, Fred was involved in the sport through the transition period of Trampoline Sports to Trampoline Gymnastics in the 1990’s,and will always remain a highly respected member of the wider gymnastics community.
A passionate coach, Fred led the Trampoline program at Central Coast Youth Club for over 35 years, where he coached his athletes to international trampoline success. While Fred had been retired for many years, the Austine name remains well known and highly respected in gymnastics community – with son Brett following is father’s footsteps as the current National Trampoline Coach.
While Fred’s coaching accolades will always hold significance in our country, his support of those within gymnastics is a legacy that will live on. He and his wife Joyce, who passed away in 2015, shared their life and home with many athletes in the sport and were constantly supportive of the trampoline community. Their hospitality, kindness and loyalty to family and the sport will be remembered always.
Fred’s leadership and friendship will always be remembered by the entire gymnastics community.
A celebration of Fred’s life will take place on Saturday 14 September, 11am at Greenway Chapel and Memorial Gardens, Green Point NSW.
