Gymnastics NSW Farewells Richard Turnbull

The staff at Gymnastics NSW would like to wish the best of luck to Compliance “Child Safe Child Friendly” Officer Richard Turnbull, who after 40 years in the sport, today begins his well earned retirement.

Richard joined the GNSW team in 2014 and has been instrumental in the promotion of child safety within the gymnastics community. The first Child Safe Officer within our sport in Australia, Richard was a respected voice within the gymnastics, and wider sporting community.

Richard oversaw the introduction of Working with Children Checks, MPIO’s and Child Safe Officers to our community, keeping child safety at the centre of all we do.  Listening to the community he respects so much, Richard developed information and advice for clubs and coaches around daily challenges in the gym, and has help guide our young people with their responsibilities through the “Now you are 18” resource.

Richard has remained a friendly face within the Gymnastics NSW office. We wish to thank him for his contribution to our great sport and wish him the best of luck in his retirement.

We greatly value the sensitive nature of the Compliance and Child Safe Role. To ensure a seamless transition into the Child Safe Role, Compliance Officer Kim Creamer joined the Gymnastics NSW team in January 2019 and will now oversee the Child Safe Portfolio.
