Gymnastics NSW partners with Red Cross Australia 

The Board of Gymnastics NSW wish to announce a new partnership with Australian Red Cross to deliver Mental Health Matters Workshops and Mental Health First Aid training to Gymnastics NSW members throughout 2020.

Gymnastics NSW recognises the trauma, hardship and social isolation that recent natural events has had on our regional areas. In support of our members, GNSW  is committed to supporting the communities that have endured such natural events that has negatively affected their mental, physical, social and emotional wellbeing.

The workshops will be funded as part of a 2019 NSW Health Grant, created to support communities affected by the ongoing drought in NSW.  

“Sport is a major contributor to positive mental and overall wellbeing,” stated Gymnastics NSW CEO Aaron Bloomfield. 

“The team at Gymnastics NSW appreciate that for many affected communties, engaging in physical activity can be a way of bringing the communities together in a positive, caring and understanding environment. Australian Red Cross are a respected leader in supporting and rebuiling communities. Through the provision of Mental Health Matters Workshops and Mental Health First Aid Training, we hope to be able to better equip our members as they navigate their daily challenges and find normalcy in the sport that they love.” 

The Mental Health Matters workshops will be held in Bathurst, Coffs Harbour, Goulbourn, Lismore, Maitland, Murray, Port Macquarie, Tamworth, Tweed and Wagga Wagga. Tailoring to suit regional locations, it will provide information to local mental health service providers, community driven mental health initiatives and suicide prevention networks for ongoing referral and support pathways.

The partnership will be inclusive of all demographics including Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander people, CALD, LGBTQI communities.
