Armidale City to Host 2021 Country Championships

Gymnastics NSW is excited to announce that Armidale City Gymnastics Club will be the host of the 2021 Country Championships.

From the 26-30 June 2021, the NSW country community will come together over 5 days to compete across 6 of the 7 diverse gymsports found within gymnastics.

“We are excited to be taking one of our pinnacle events on the gymnastics calendar to Armidale for 2021,” noted Chris Martin, Gymnastics NSW Sport and Events Manager.

Country Championships will be the first major event since Armidale’s recent rebuild, thanks to a community grant from the NSW Government.

Armidale Regional Council Mayor Ian Tiley said securing the hosting rights for the NSW Country Gymnastics Championships was testament to the vision and determination of the Armidale City Gymnastics Club.

“The club must be congratulated for delivering a wonderful new facility that can now attract large championship events to our region. I warmly welcome competitors, their family and friends to our region and have no doubt this event will be a standout on the gymnastics calendar.”

As for Armidale City Gymnastics Club owner Wally O’Hara, the event has been over 30 years in the making.

“We are so excited to be granted this great opportunity to host the NSW Country Championships. We’ve been preparing to host this event since 1985 when we attended our first Country Championships in Gunnedah, which was hosted over one day,“ said Mr O’Hara.

“We hope our new additions to the facility meet with approval and that the town of Armidale, which like all our other struggling rural communities, shows you what country hospitality is all about.”

The Gymnastics NSW Country Championships will be held at Armidale City Gymnastics Club, from the 26-30 June 2021.
